Cannabis Laws by State
Louisiana is medical-only, but statewide decriminalization makes possession of up to 14 grams a fine-only offense for non-patients. Patients may obtain recommended medical-cannabis products from a small pharmacy-style retail network, while adult-use sales and home cultivation remain illegal.

Louisiana is medical-only, but statewide decriminalization makes possession of up to 14 grams a fine-only offense for non-patients. Patients may obtain recommended medical-cannabis products from a small pharmacy-style retail network, while adult-use sales and home cultivation remain illegal.
For non-patients, possession of up to 14 grams is punishable by a fine of up to $100, without arrest or jail. Medical access is recommendation- and supply-based rather than governed by a fixed statewide possession cap. Public consumption and driving-related offenses remain illegal.
Louisiana does not allow personal cannabis cultivation, including for medical patients. Production is reserved for the state's licensed production facilities, and the 2021 decriminalization law did not legalize growing.
Neither being 21 or older nor holding medical authorization creates a personal grow right in Louisiana. Cultivation is limited to licensed businesses or another explicit state-law exception, so a person should not start plants without a current legal basis.
License classes:
Caps: There are exactly 2 cultivation licenses. The pharmacy-style retail structure began with about 10 permits and allows satellite expansion toward roughly 30 locations; secondary 2026 reporting described about 23 sites.
Integration model: Cultivation and retail are separate, capped classes; vertical integration is structurally unavailable.
Round status: The two production licenses are held by Good Day Farm and Ilera Holistic Healthcare. Retail growth is through satellite locations, not an open licensing round.
Local control: No municipal medical-program opt-out regime was documented; permits are organized through state-issued regional retail authority.
Jobs outlook: The small, capped market concentrates work at two producers and pharmacy-style retailers, where pharmacist-in-charge and pharmacy-technician roles are central. Growth is primarily through satellite sites and facility expansion.

Secondary licensing summaries describe employee-permit restrictions involving theft, fraud, violent crimes, Schedule I drug offenses, and offenses punishable by more than one year. Exact employee-permit disqualifications depend on the current licensing rule and the role.
No. Louisiana is medical-only. Possession of up to 14 grams is decriminalized to a fine of up to $100, but that does not authorize recreational purchase, public use, or home cultivation.
No. Louisiana reserves production for the state's licensed facilities, and patients do not have a personal cultivation right.
Patients with clinician recommendations use a small, pharmacy-style retailer network regulated by the Louisiana Department of Health Cannabis Program. The precise patient supply limit should be verified with the retailer and treating clinician.
It is highly capped: two private production licensees, Good Day Farm and Ilera Holistic Healthcare, supply a pharmacy-style retail network with limited satellite expansion. Cultivation and retail are separate license classes.
Potentially. Exact disqualifications depend on current licensing rules and the role, so applicants should confirm current requirements with the licensing authority and prospective employer.
