New Jersey has adult-use and medical cannabis. Adults 21 and older may possess up to 6 ounces and purchase a one-ounce equivalent per dispensary transaction, but cannot grow cannabis at home. Adults 21 and older may possess up to 6 ounces. A dispensary transaction may include one ounce of dried flower, 4 grams of solid concentrate or vape oil, 1,000 mg of ingestible products, or a prorated combination. Possessing more than 6 ounces is a fourth-degree crime. Medical patients have separate program rules; the reported 3-ounce monthly cap should be rechecked with current CRC materials.
New Jersey does not allow home cultivation for any adult or medical patient. Growing fewer than 10 plants remains a third-degree crime. Bills S2564, A1674, and S1758 would change this if enacted, but none has advanced to a floor vote yet.
Neither being 21 or older nor holding medical authorization creates a personal grow right in New Jersey. Cultivation is limited to licensed businesses or another explicit state-law exception, so a person should not start plants without a current legal basis.
